Trip

I am heading to Chicago and Florida in September. What are highlights of Chicago, day trips from chicago etc.?

Staying at Marco island west coast Florida, but planning day trip to south Beach Miami. Up for things like kennedy space centre, but other relaxing things too. Also like referal to good boat charters and fishing charters. Restaurant ratings too. For chicago, anything near the water, bars for a good martini, places to soak up some atmosphere. Thanks

  1. I live in Chicago. checkout the shed aquarium, museum of science and industry, take a boat ride down the Chicago river, millennium park,Chicago art institute. Just stay on the North side. The south side is not bad just not as nice as the north. Sorry I am not much of a drinker
  2. Navy Pier is a great spot....lots of good food (Joe's Be-Bop Cafe & Jazz Emporium , wonderful!) Tons of shopping. The IMAX theater is the best there is! There are all kinds of boats and sightseeing cruises that are always fun. There is the 150 foot ferris wheel, make sure to ride at night for a great view of Chicago's skyline ! All sorts of shows and attractions. Not to mention nice beer gardens to just sit and relax and soak it all in. Hope this helps.
  3. Navy Pier is a tourist trap and a waste of time. If you want to soak up some of Chicago's atmosphere try some of its great restaurants and the many museums.

Sorry I'm only 20, so I don't know of many bars. But a good place to go for a drink is at the Hancock building at night. It's got a fabulous view of the city (check out the women's bathroom).

I just thought I would give you that tip about navy pier... it's just full of generic restaurants and it blocks you off from the REAL Chicago. If you stay at a hotel, ask the concierge about restaurants and bars. They will know. Look up the Italian Village. It has fantastic pasta and pizza.
