Any suggestions for Day Trips in the North Carolina area?

I have family visiting from up North and would love to show them a good time. Thanks.
I live in Raeford, N.C. which is about 25 min. from Ft. Bragg.
So far i've received some very good suggestions from all the viewers. Thank you so much, i will have to map these locations out and try them. Our visit should be a fun time.

  1. Depends on where in North Carolina you are. Try the ski resorts in the mountains if you are not too far....
  2. The beaches are always a good bet. I'm from Ohio but have vacationed in NC for several years. Love it. If it's possible, go to Wilmington. Very beautiful city with a lot to do
  3. I live in NC mountains. Used to live in Raleigh area.

Try Raleigh's Museum of Natural History

    Visit Cliffs of Neuse

    Go to Fort Macon

Go to Nag's Head & Wright Museum & Ronoake Island & replica of the Queen Elizabeth II. Drive down the outer banks and take the ferrys, and see the Hatteras lighthouse.

Visit USS North Carolina Battleship in Wilmington

Go to King's Dominion near Richmond, Va.

Visit Williamsburg, Va. and Go to the "Jamestown settlement and the actual siteof the first (LOST) colony.

Virginia Beach is nice. So is Carolina Beach in Wilmington, And Myrtle Beach in SC

All these places are within 2 - 5 hrs of Raeford. Some good planning can get you where you need to go and have plenty of time to see the sites after you get there

Make sure you eat some Eastern NC Bar-B Que, There's plenty of good places.

If you decide on a trip to the mountains, try these spots:
