2. my first thought was similar to the one already posted. hawaii is anything but economical. try pleasant hawaiian holidays for a tour, and catch them in the off season. what you really need to cover is the airfare, the "transfers" (from the airport and back to it ) and the hotel or condo. pleasant has been doing this since hawaii became a state so they know what they are doing. try to stay away from the touristy things, like the luau, the don ho shows, the always crowded bus or boat tours. dont shop for clothes on hotel row- been there, done that. go to the Muumuu factory on the street behind Ala Moana shopping center. try to get a hotel that has a micro and a little fridge- go food shopping and have picnics in the parks. food will be about 20% more than stateside. the outer islands are about 35-40% more. Theres a huge shopping center by the Surfrider hotel, called the international some thing something.
